Daniel Anthony has been at Nauset Regional High School since 2017. In addition to his role as the director of the First Encounter Jazz Ensemble, he also directs the Concert Band, String Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble and teaches Music Theory. Mr. Anthony previously worked at St. John Paul II High School and St. Francis Xavier Preparatory Schools. He graduated in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in Music Education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Having grown up on the Cape, Mr. Anthony is glad to be settled back in the area, living with his wife Nicole and their daughter, Elizabeth.
What is your primary instrument? How long have you played it?
My primary instrument in trombone, which I've been playing since the seventh grade.
What ensembles have you been a part of?
I have played in the Cape Youth Orchestra, the Cape Cod Conservatory Jazz Ensemble, the UMass Amherst Minuteman Marching Band, as well as many different groups when I was in high school and college.
What other instruments do play?
I also play trumpet, tuba and piano. I also sing in a barbershop quartet and chorus.
What's your favorite jazz band memory so far?
Each year, Swing Night is an incredible culmination of the work the band has put in since September. Every group of students each year has a special way about them, and Swing Night is an awesome end of the year tradition.
