All-Cape Jazz, or the All-Cape & Islands Jazz Music Festival, is our local-level competitive jazz festival. Students audition on an jazz instrument in February, and a Cape-wide jazz ensemble is put together. The festival is held at Dennis-Yarmouth High School every April.

The audition for All-Cape Jazz is divided into four components: the audition piece, improvization, scales, and the sight-reading. The audition piece is chosen released to the students before the audition similar to All-Cape, and forms the main part of the audition. Then, the sight-reading and scales components are the same as a normal All-Cape audition, except the scales include the Bb and F Blues scales. The only fully unique component is improvization.
Students have the opportunity to either improvise Slow Blues in Bb or Fast Blues in F with the respective recordings from Jamey Aebersold's book Nothin' But Blues: Volume 2 as background. The section is a few minutes long.
The All-Cape Jazz Festival is organized by the Cape Cod Music Educators Association. More information regarding the festival may be found at www.allcapemusic.org.
