MAJE, or the Massachusetts Association for Jazz Education Festival, is our interscholastic competition. We go to the District festival every year and compete against other high school jazz bands from across southeastern Massachusetts. Depending on our performance, we then go to the state festival and compete against the best bands from every district. Awards are given at the bronze, silver, and gold levels at both levels of the competition.
All-Cape, or the All-Cape & Islands Music Festival, is our local-level competitive music festival. Students from across Cape Cod band together at Barnstable High School at the end of January each year and participate in either the concert band, orchestra, mixed chorus, or treble chorus. Auditions are held in November.
All-Cape Jazz, or the All-Cape & Islands Jazz Music Festival, is our local-level competitive jazz festival. Students audition on an jazz instrument in February, and a Cape-wide jazz ensemble is put together. The festival is held at Dennis-Yarmouth High School every April.
Senior Districts, or the Southeastern District M.M.E.A. Senior Music Festival, is our district-level competitive music festival. Tenth through twelfth grade students come together from all across southeastern Massachusetts in the middle of January, usually at an off-Cape location, to participate in a district-wide concert band, orchestra, jazz ensemble, percussion ensemble, mixed choir, or treble choir. Auditions are held in November, usually the same week as All-Cape auditions. Ninth grade students have the opportunity to participate at the district level at its sister festival, Junior Districts.
The All-State Festival is our state-level competitive music festival. Students who receive a certain cutoff score specific to their instrument on the Senior District level auditions receive an invitation to audition for the All-State Festival in January. Students have the opportunity to participate in the state-wide concert band, orchestra, jazz ensemble, or chorus. The festival is usually in Boston in March and culminates with a performance at Boston's Symphony Hall.
